What is FTP?

-"FTP" stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is a standard Internet protocol (a formalized procedure for transferring digital
information) that provides Web authors and other Web users with an easy way to upload and download files between
computers that are connected to the Internet.

How do I configure my router for FTP to my HipServ?

-Your router must forward port 21 to your HipServ's IP address. Ideally, this will be done with UPnP if it is supported by your router. From your HipServ homepage click Administer HipServ > Router Configuration or click Settings > Administer HipServ > Router Configuration. Click the Router UPnP Negotiation link.

-If your router does not support UPnP, from the Router Configuration page click Configure Your Router to access your router's interface and modify your port forwarding settings. You may use our router configuration guide for assistance.

-To test that your router's port forwarding is properly configured, please use our Test Port Forwarding Tool.

My credentials are not being accepted

-Because HipServ is built on a Linux operating system, in FTP the username is case sensitive as well as the password. If your username is ‘HipServ’ then ‘hipserv’ will not work.

I cannot see FamilyLibrary via FTP

-At this time, FTP is setup for access to personal private files only. A feature enhancement request is in place to make FamilyLibrary available via FTP.

How to connect via FTP

-Locally, browse to ftp://<hipservip>/. You may find your HipServ ip address by right clicking your HipServ Agent, selecting Preferences, HipServ's Found.

-Externally, browse to ftp://<hipservname>.<centralserver>/, where <hipservname> is your actual HipServ name and <centralserver> is the login homepage you connect to, such as homelacie.com or homelibrary.fr, etc. (Example: ftp://robysdrive.homelacie.com)
